The Guardians 'University Guide 2014' places Sheffield Hallam 72nd out of 119 higher education institutions; this is an improvement on 83rd the previous year. In comparison to some of its direct competitors from the North of England Sheffield Hallam ranks higher than Manchester Met (93), Leeds Met (107) and York St John (94)

The business aims of Sheffield Hallam University are set out in its 'Corporate Plan 2008-2013' which has been subsequently amended in 2011. The vision of this corporate plan is by 2015 Sheffield Hallam should to be an established top 50 ranking university.
Within the universities 'Corporate Plan 2008-2013' further objectives and aims are set out in a number of strategies of which 'Enhancing our Estate' applies to my job role as an Assistant Project Manager. Our Estates specific objective is: To enable the provision and maintenance of space that supports the universitys plans for academic activities in teaching, research and innovation.
Over the next three years the university is investing approx £95 million into its estate. The Estates department will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of universitys capital plan. Notable investments are;

- £27m development of new Heart of the Campus at Collegiate campus.
- £4.8m on new Sheffield Hallam Sports Park at Bawtry Road
- £30m on new flagship building Charles Street at the city campus
